Mathematics and Statistics Department Colloquium

Abstract:  Many colleges and other institutions face a tough task in deciding which best applicants to accept among the many that apply. This is because these institutions lack enough information about the applicants’ preferences and behavior. The purpose of the talk is to see if we can find a way to solve this imbalance of information between the two sides. We use the traditional stable marriage problem to model the situation and see how to apply it to the other institutions, specifically a college in our case.
