One Billion Rising
Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Goodrich Hall 863 Main St, Williams College, Williamstown, MA 01267, USA
One Billion Rising was created by Eve Ensler, who wrote the Vagina Monologues, to spread awareness of the physical abuse, discrimination and lack of basic rights that women across the world still experience. The event is supposed to create a platform for discussion and lead into brainstorming ways that we can help stop these injustices from happening. This night, we will put on a "Rising" where students can come out to hear personal reflections and concerns in regards to the event, see a monologue written by Eve for this occasion performed and watch engaging videos that contain critical information that can help increase our knowledge of what is happening in the world to women today. There will also be tabling by clubs so that students can sign up for clubs that focus on the issues brought up this night and continue to address them. There will also be a letter writing session with Amnesty International, where students can write letters to victims of abuse to show their solidarity. There will also be cookies! This event is for students and faculty.
