MIDWEEKMUSIC...In C

MIDWEEKMUSIC is a unique lunchtime music series. Audience sit on the Chapin Hall stage to enjoy the wonderful acoustics and atmosphere of the grand hall, but with the intimate setting of a chamber concert.  Everyone is encouraged to bring lunch and enjoy the music performed by our students and faculty. This first MIDWEEKMUSIC of the year consists of just one piece, with many performers. Led by Professor Ed Gollin a group of Williams students, faculty, and friends perform In C, by Terry Riley.
The minimalist work is performed regularly in the music department, and brings together many people who might not otherwise get a chance to perform with one another. Over the years the piece has become a tradition in the music department. Heading up the project, Prof. Ed Gollin comments, "Besides being a really great piece of music, and great fun to perform, the communal nature of the work's organization (a product greater than the sum of the individual performers making individual decisions) reminds us that music is a communal activity, and what better way to celebrate the beginning of year by coming together to make music?"
