Game Theory:  Learn How to Coach Federer by Matthew Micheli '14, Mathematics and Statistics Department Colloquium

Abstract:  I will talk about using Game Theory to help Federer beat his rival Nadal.  First I will talk about Brouwer's Fixed Point Theorem and will prove Mixed Strategy Nash Equilibrium.  After proving the existence of Nash Equilibrium, I will talk about an application of game theory to tennis, which will ultimately lead to the coaching advice Federer could use to beat Nadal.  I will analyze potential strategic advantages that Federer can us during a given match and how Federer might practice more efficiently.
