Game Theory, Fixed Points, and Football?Evan DeDomonicis '13
Mathematics and Statistics Department Colloquium

Abstract: John Nash’s dissertation revolutionized the study of game theory. He showed that n-person non-cooperative games have at least one equilibrium point making use of fixed-point theorem. Nash’s contributions to this study of mathematics have allowed for numerous applications, and we will look at how game theory can help determine what NFL teams decide to do on kickoffs.
