Evolutionary Dynamics and Universal Grammar

Ryan Brand '13

Mathematics and Statistics Department Colloquium

Abstract:

Evolutionary dynamics is an exciting field which combines game theory and dynamical systems to describe how a population with a certain set of characteristics can evolve over time.  In this talk, I will use evolutionary dynamics to model the emergence of a Universal Grammar in a population that begins by communicating with many different overlapping sub-grammars.
