Before "Anthropology: Enlightenment Science" and the Category of the Human

Professor Andrew S. Curran, Dean of the Arts and Humanities, Professor of French, Wesleyan University, will look back at an era before the science of anthropology took shape in the nineteenth century. He will discuss the clash (and synthesis) of religious and naturalist views of the human, the birth of racial classification, and the status of Enlightenment itself.
